CNC Turning

CNC turning, which mainly cuts the workpiece by moving the workpiece quickly by the chuck, for this reason, CNC turning cannot handle workpieces that require intricate details. But it is much faster for relatively simple cuts, so it is currently used to make round parts and is also the first choice for cylindrical and conical shapes.

The turning accuracy is generally IT8~IT7, and the surface roughness is 1.6~0.8μm.

CNC Milling

CNC milling, the cutting of material, primarily by means of a tool, to produce the desired shape. The tools are computer-controlled and move in three or more axes, and thanks to this flexibility, CNC milling can produce a wide variety of parts, whether complex or simple. CNC milling is currently the most widely used production process in the metal industry.

The machining accuracy of milling can generally reach IT8~IT7, and the surface roughness is 6.3~1.6μm.

CNC Machining Materials

Metals

Not all materials listed.

It has a good strength-to-weight ratio and is inherently resistant to atmospheric corrosion. The material is very machinable and machinable, but it can be more expensive than other metals and does not perform well when exposed to salt water or other chemicals

A higher grade of aluminum, 7075 is one of the strongest aluminum alloys, AL7075’s high strength and average machinability make it difficult to bend into difficult and complex shapes, the material is ideal for metals that need to withstand regular stresses.

An alloy of aluminum and zinc that is 35% lighter than comparable strength aluminum, making it both lightweight and strong. This material is easy to process, but it has flammable properties and is generally more expensive.

Brass is soft and easy to machine, has high polishability, and does not spark when struck with another metal, making it ideal for use in potentially explosive environments.

The most common stainless steel, very tough, non-magnetic, easy to machine and generally resistant to corrosion.

is an air hardening, high carbon, high chromium tool steel with high wear and abrasion resistance, heat treatable and offers a strong hardness range. The D2 is ideal for making parts and products that need to bend easily but are also stiff.

Is a mild steel, strong and tough, often less expensive than stainless steel, the material can be hardened and heat treated, making it easy to machine and weld. It is most commonly used in industrial applications and mechanical parts that require a high degree of toughness and strength.

Best known for its high strength, light weight and toughness, titanium can be easily welded and anodized for protection and appearance. It’s a good conductor of heat, but it’s poorly polished and a poor conductor of electricity, usually more expensive than other metals.

Plastics

Not all materials listed.

ABS is one of the most common thermoplastic materials with good mechanical properties, excellent impact strength, high heat resistance and good machinability.

ABS has a low density and is ideal for lightweight applications. CNC machined ABS parts are often used as prototypes before injection molding for mass production.

Nylon, also known as polyamide (PA), is a thermoplastic often used in engineering applications because of its excellent mechanical properties, good impact strength, and high chemical and abrasion resistance. But it absorbs water and moisture easily.

Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 are the most commonly used grades in CNC machining.

Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic with high toughness, good machinability and excellent impact strength (better than ABS). It can be tinted, but is usually optically clear, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, including fluidic devices or automotive glass.

Pompom, commonly known by the trade name Delrin, is the most machinable engineering thermoplastic in plastics.

POM (Delrin) is usually the best choice when CNC machining plastic parts that require high precision, high stiffness, low friction, excellent high temperature dimensional stability and very low water absorption.

Commonly referred to as Teflon, PTFE is an engineering thermoplastic with excellent chemical and thermal resistance and the lowest coefficient of friction of any known solid.

One of the few plastics that can withstand operating temperatures above 200°C, Teflon is an excellent electrical insulator. However, it has purely mechanical properties and is often used as a lining or insert in components.

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a thermoplastic with a high strength-to-weight ratio, high impact strength, and good weather resistance.

HDPE is a lightweight thermoplastic suitable for outdoor use and plumbing. Like ABS, it is often used to create prototypes prior to injection molding.

PEEK is a high-performance engineering thermoplastic with excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability over a very wide temperature range, and excellent resistance to most chemicals.

PEEK is often used to replace metal parts due to its high strength-to-weight ratio. Medical grades are also available, making PEEK suitable for biomedical applications as well.
